Diabetes is a disease that hampers the ability of the body to properly produce insulin. Insulin is a hormone that is produced in the pancreas. Insulin is the hormone which enables glucose to be moved from the blood into cells. Glucose is produced when the food that we eat is broken down to a substance that the body can easily absorb. So what basically happens is that when the body fails to produce the required amount of insulin to move the glucose from the blood to the cells, the glucose builds up in the blood.
When this happens, the glucose then builds up in the urine and passes out of the body through the urine. So this means that when all that glucose passes out of the body, it is steadily losing it's main source of energy.
Diabetes is classified into three types:
Type 1 Diabetes - In Type 1 diabetes, the body's own immune system attacks and destroy the cells in the pancreas that produces insulin. This condition is also known as a form of autoimmune disease. Autoimmune disease happens when the immune system attacks or turn against a certain part of the body. A person with Type 1 diabetes must always take insulin everyday in order to survive. Some symptoms for Type 1 diabetes are: extreme fatigue, the feeling of always being hungry, increased thirst and loss of weight and blurred vision.
Type 2 Diabetes - Type 2 diabetes is the most common form of diabetes. People who are diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes are mostly the elderly, people who are obese or are suffering from weight problems and people who have a history of the disease running in their family. Symptoms for type 2 diabetes are mostly similar to type 1 diabetes.
Gestational Diabetes - This type of diabetes develops in some women during their late pregnancy. There is also a possibility that this type of diabetes can develop to type 2 diabetes. Women with gestational diabetes may not feel any symptoms.
If you think that you suffer from any of these symptoms, go to your doctor and ask him about diabetes and have yourself checked.
